We live in a log cabin and we have a hand corn grinder setting on our front porch. I remember using one when I was a child. Believe it or not, I am not a hundred years old. We also have an electric grain mill inside the house, which one do you suppose we use today?

About forty years ago I came across a bread recipe that the bread came out almost black. It was the most wonderful tasting bread! The cookbook was loaned to me by a friend and I guess my brain wasn't working right back then because I returned that cookbook without copying the recipe. I am still looking for that recipe. About ten years ago we purchased the electric Nutrimill grain Mill. Each time when we are ready to bake bread we grind our wheat first and then use the flour to bake the bread. Some grain mills are so loud you have to go outside with them to grind the wheat. A fifty pound bag usually lasts us about a year. We store it in a tin can and it keeps just fine. We have enjoyed the healthiest brown bread that you could ever ask for. There are no preservatives added to this bread, nor is any of the good content taken out. It is the whole wheat grain. By grinding the wheat into flour immediately before using it, you save all the natural vitamin and mineral content. That is the luxury of using the electric Nutrimill grain mill.
